Julie-Anne McCarthy, MSc


Julie-Anne is a PhD student in the Department of Community Health Sciences and a member of the CARe team since 2021. She has an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Science in Community Psychology from Sacred Heart University (Connecticut, USA). Julie-Anne’s work experience is focused on research and practice in mental health. Previous employment includes Program Specialist in Mental Health Promotion with the Winnipeg Regional Healthy Authority; Provincial Program Coordinator with Healthy Child Manitoba; Sessional Instructor with the Université de Saint Boniface; Research Coordinator with the University of Manitoba; Crisis Worker with the Mental Health Crisis Response Center and Mobile Crisis unit; and various work with the Franco-Manitoban community.

2012-2013, Master of Science, Community Psychology, Sacred Heart University (Connecticut, USA), “Mental Illness Prevention: Exploring Effective Coping Strategies in School-Aged Children”  


2021-ongoing, Doctorate of Philosophy, Community Health Sciences, University of Manitoba 


Her research interests include population health, mental health promotion, mental illness prevention and intervention, child and youth mental health, Francophone minority well-being in Manitoba and Canada, psychology of sustainability.

  • 2022 PhD in Health Research Studentship Award (PhD) – Research Manitoba, Children's Hospital Research Institute of Manitoba (Declined).

  • 2013 Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology.
